About Knot Your Mother's Macrame by JSO
Origin Story
The seeds for Knot Your Mother’s Macrame by JSO actually began when I was a little girl in the 70s and my very talented mother patiently taught me how to macrame. I didn’t do it again for many years. Fast forward to an early retirement in 2023 and time on my hands. I didn’t remember how to macrame, but I knew I had fun doing it and thought I should give it a try. I hopped on YouTube and taught myself (again). It turns out that it IS really fun and I made a LOT of stuff. As projects of all kinds accumulated, family and friends suggested I might sell some of it. I did that, and shortly thereafter, Knot Your Mother’s Macrame by JSO grew from that seed planted in the 70s.
Macrame - What is it?
Macrame is an extremely versatile art form. Unlike crochet or knitting, macrame uses no hooks or needles. It is created entirely from a variety of knots put together in interesting ways. Cording of different materials (cotton, waxed cord, polyester, etc) and weights are used and provide the artist with great flexibility as they work. This flexibility allows for the creation of large statement pieces such as wedding backdrops, accessories like totes and water bottle carriers, and home decor like baskets and wall hangings. I also really enjoy making jewelry, which is referred to as micro-macrame.
What’s Next?
I will be participating in Boho on the Block at The Boho Experience in Vernon, CT, the New England Spring Craft Festival at Mohegan Sun on Mother's Day weekend, and monthly at the Windsor Farmers Market, including on the Windsor Town Green on July 2nd for our 250th Celebration.
